Rabbi Steve Folberg
Rabbi Steven Folberg is a native of Philadelphia. He received his bachelor of arts degree in Psychology at La Salle University in Philadelphia. Rabbi Folberg received Rabbinic Ordination at the New York campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He served as Associate Rabbi of Temple Beth-El of Great Neck, New York for six years, and assumed the Senior Rabbi position at Congregation Beth Israel in 1991. Rabbi Folberg is proud to be approaching, with God's help, nearly 2 decades of service to our congregation.
He is passionate about teaching people of all ages in a wide variety of settings, and feels especially blessed to increasingly be called upon to preside over the weddings and name the babies of his former bar mitzvah and bat mitzvah students!
Rabbi Folberg is committed to building a warm, compassionate and inclusive sacred community. He is devoted to pursuing justice and Tikkun Olam through community service and advocacy. He has a particular interest in environmental stewardship as a Jewish religious imperative, and is one of the founding members of The Interfaith Environmental Network of Austin.
Rabbi Folberg is blessed to be married to Sandra Goldman, a writer and writing teacher. They have a daughter, Shira Lillian.
