Texas United Methodist Women’s 21st Annual Legislative Event a Success!
“Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested, we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.”—President Barack Obama, Inaugural Address, January 20, 2009
More than 150 United Methodist Women gathered in Austin January 25-27, 2009 for the 21st annual United Methodist Women’s Legislative Event. This year’s theme, inspired by President Barack Obama’s words, was Testing Texas.
The Texas United Methodist Women’s Legislative Event is a national model educational program that brings together women of all ages and backgrounds to learn more about how their state government works and how they can be active, informed citizens. The event is packed with speakers and informational panels; this year women learned about health care, the environment, immigration and human trafficking, and state revenue issues.
