Breaking News: Farm Bill Votes tomorrow--Call TODAY!
After many delays and false starts, the full Senate is likely to begin voting on specific amendments to the farm bill on Tuesday, December 11. Even if you've called before, please take the time to call again. This may be our last chance to impact Senators Cornyn and Hutchison. During this holiday season, let's remind them that they have the power to improve people's lives, and we have the power to influence them.
Call your senators using Bread for the World's toll-free number, 1-800-826-3688*, by COB Monday December 10. (*Capitol Switchboard)
Ask for each of your senators' offices and then tell the staff person that answers:
"There are several farm bill reform amendments that can help make great strides against hunger and poverty here at home and around the world. I urge Senator Hutchison/Cornyn to support:
• the FRESH Amendment,
• the Dorgan-Grassley Amendment,
• the Brown-Sununu Amendment, and
• any other amendments that put additional funding into nutrition programs.
These amendments would provide a safety net for all farmers-not just those who grow program crops; they make our commodity system fairer for smaller family farmers; and they adequately fund vital needs in nutrition."
Be sure to make two calls - one to Senator Hutchison and one to Senator Cornyn.
Thank you for all you have done this year for farm bill reform.
Peace,
Suzanne and Seth
