The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) today posted a summary of their draft legislative appropriation request (LAR) for 2012-13. The request is for HHSC and its subsidiary agencies: the Department of Family and Protective Services, the Department of Aging and Disability Services, the Department of State Health Services, and the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services.
Following instructions from the state's leadership, HHSC's budget request contemplates a 10 percent reduction in funding for the upcoming biennium. The request includes significant cuts in important state services such as child abuse prevention, mental health and substance abuse treatment, and community-based services for Texans with disabilities.
The Health and Human Services Council will meet at 10:30am on Friday, August 6, to take public testimony regarding the proposed budget request. More information and the summary document are available at http://www.hhsc.state.tx.us/about_hhsc/council/schedule.shtml
