Children's Health: You Can Help

What Can YOU do to Increase the Number of Texas Kids who Have Insurance?

by Jodie Smith, Texans Care for Children

The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has an informative and user-friendly website at www.CHIPmedicaid.org. This site has basic consumer information about the two programs in both English and Spanish that you can direct clients or potential clients to. For how YOUR ORGANIZATION CAN HELP, click on the link at the bottom of the page that says "Information for Community Based Organizations/Health Plans." It has some great materials to help promote CHIP/Children's Medicaid, along with clarifying information to help you accurately educate the people that you work with and serve.

HHSC has distributed this information to us, we are distributing it to you, and we ask that you keep it going: distribute it to your networks, members, and friends. Spreading good information and resources broadly is critical if we are going to make a dent in the number of uninsured children in this state.

What else can you do? Place a CHIP/Children's Medicaid web banner ad on your organization's website. These ads (in both English and Spanish) can be found at http://www.chipmedicaid.org/cbo/web_banners. htm. The banners can be placed on a website and linked back to http://www.chi pmedicaid.org/. This is an easy action that all of us who have an internet presence can take.

The Health and Human Services Commission's Office of Community Collaboration has launched a Web page that will provide Medicaid stakeholders a place to exchange best practice ideas, find resources and get program improvement information. Possibly the most direct way to benefit from the Office of Community Collaboration's efforts is to sign up to receive their email updates, which you can do by clicking on "Sign up for e-mail updates" at the top of their web page.
